Rudy A. Benedetti, age 97, of North Versailles, formerly of Murrysville passed away on Friday January 10, 2025. Son of the late Angelo and Mary Benedetti; Beloved husband of Barbara M. Benedetti and the late Alda L. Benedetti. Dear father of Janis (Michael) Zurich of Upper St. Clair, Barry (Leanna) Benedetti of North Huntingdon and Judy (Peggy) Isaksen of North Carolina; beloved step-father of Richard McCarrick (Mary Jo) of Verona, Jeffrey (Mary Jane) McCarrick of Plum, and the late Margo Stocker. Special grandfather of 13 grandchildren; great-grandfather of 17; brother of Robert of Texas, Jack of Arizona and Albert of Missouri; predeceased by brothers Dan and Angelo Benedetti and sister Laura Hrutkay. Rudy was a veteran of the US Army during the WW II Era; he was the owner of Dependable Sales in Monessen for 19 years. He sold the business in 1966 when he was employed by People’s Natural Gas Company. He retired from People’s in 1989 and after retirement he served as an energy conservation consultant with People’s for 27 years. Rudy served on many boards and organizations, including Monessen City Planning Commission as Chairman, the Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Builders Association, Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh. Rudy was named Associate Builder for the State of Pennsylvania in 1979 and was selected twice as Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Community Champion. He was named Volunteer of the Year for Dominion People’s in 2001 and in 2006 was the recipient of the AARP Andrus Award for Community Service for the State of Pennsylvania. In 2004 Rudy was named the Pittsburgh Steelers and Parade Magazine’s Community Quarterback of the Year. He served as a volunteer tax preparer with AARP and devoted many hours to Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh in renovating homes for low-income homeowners. Rudy was an active member of the St. Regis Church in Trafford where he served on the finance council, was a lector and served as past president of the pastoral council. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 3-7 PM in the John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home Inc., 702 7th St. (State Rt. 130) Trafford 412-372-3111. Parting prayers of transfer will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 AM in the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 12 Noon in the St. Regis Church with Fr. Daniel Carr as celebrant.
