Rita L. (Kelly) Rizzo Obituary

Rita L. (Kelly) Rizzo, 85, of Trafford passed away peacefully on Monday, May 26, 2025. Rita was born on March 6, 1940 to the late Ernest and Lorraine (Parrish) Kelly in Spangler, PA. She graduated from Cresson Joint High School in 1960. In her early years, Rita worked as a nursery aide at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. Rita is survived by her husband of 58 years, Anthony Rizzo; her daughter, Karen Zuzich (Mark); her grandchildren, Natalie (Jamie) and Nicole (Jake); her brother Kenneth Kelly; and four great-grandchildren, Sophia, Jaxson, Anthony, and Charlotte; sister- in-law, Theresa (Sam) Severino, brother-in-law John Rizzo, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Michael Kelly.  Rita was the most caring, compassionate, and selfless person. Even through her toughest time, she never complained about anything. Rita was a devoted Catholic and loved expressing her faith by saying the Rosary daily and praying for anyone she could think of. She was an active member of the St. Regis Catholic Church in Trafford. At St. Regis, she was a member of the former Altar Rosary Society, sewed sleeping bags for the homeless, and prepared meals for new mothers.  Rita was the model homemaker and loved children. Her daughter, Karen, was the highlight of her life. Rita grew up in an orphanage from the ages of eight to eighteen, so she made sure her daughter had everything she never had. Rita adored her granddaughters, Natalie and Nicole, and did anything she could for them. In her spare time, Rita loved babysitting the neighborhood kids. You could always find her in the kitchen cooking or baking something she saw on The Food Network. From her homemade pizzas to her apple pies and dumplings, Rita could make anything and everything. She loved being in the kitchen with her granddaughters, especially, making Christmas cookies every year. Rita had a countless number of friends and loved them dearly. Her close friends, Joanne, Judy, and Joyce, always enjoyed coming over for coffee and playing numerous rounds of Yahtzee, Skip-Bo, or Pokeno.  Family and friends will be received on Thursday May 29 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home Inc., 702 7Th St. (State Rt. 130) Trafford, 412-372-3111. Parting prayers will be at 10:00 AM in the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the St. Regis Church with Fr. Daniel Carr as celebrant.  Interment will follow in the Good Shepherd Cemetery, Monroeville. To leave a condolence please visit www.DobrinickFHInc.com.
