Raymond John Mercalde entered eternal life and the joy of Heaven June 22, 2026. Raymond was born October 1, 1950 to the late William and Elvira Mercalde.
Raymond was a graduate of Gateway Senior High School where he excelled in football, earning honors reflecting his talent, discipline and love for the game. Upon graduation, Raymond departed from family to pursue a football scholarship with Garden City Community College in Kansas. He received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, continued education at California University of Pennsylvania, Pitt and Duquesne Universities with a career devoted to special education within Thomas Jefferson High School and Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU). He held an active role in YoungLife Ministries and passionately led ninth grade football as Head Coach in the Bethel Park School District, where he enjoyed mentoring student-athletes caring deeply about their growth as young men on and off the field.
A faithful parishioner of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church- Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish and a proud Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, whose life was marked by faith, kindness and brotherhood. He lived with a sincere devotion to the Holy Rosary and a firm belief in the power of prayer.
Raymond is survived by his daughter, Michelle (David) Domostoy; Siblings William (Paula) Mercalde, Thomas (Karen) Mercalde and Kathryn (Thomas) Ferguson along with cherished extended family.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 28, from 1pm-5pm at John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home (Knights of Columbus Honor Guard 2:30pm/ Prayer Service 3pm), 702 7th Street, Trafford followed by Mass of Christian Burial offered by Father Anthony Ferguson, nephew of the late Raymond Mercalde on Monday, June 29, at 11am at St. Regis Catholic Church, 517 Homewood Avenue, Trafford. Rite of Committal will follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery, 733 Patton Street, Monroeville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Spiritan Retreat Center-Congregation of the Holy Spirit, 6230 Brush Run Road, Bethel Park 15102-2214 where Raymond regularly attended daily Mass alongside retired priests.
