Patrick J. O'Reilly

Patrick J. O’Reilly, proudly known as “Big Pat”, age 77 of Trafford passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Patrick was born on September 13, 1947 in Turtle Creek the son of the late Leo and Margaret (Daugherty) O’Reilly. After graduating from West Liberty State, Pat began his career as a business education teacher at Swissvale High School. He also dedicated himself to coaching, leading the Girls’ Basketball team, the Junior High Boys’, and the Boys’ Junior Varsity teams before being promoted to Head Coach of the Boys’ Varsity team—a role he proudly held for thirteen years. In addition to his teaching and coaching, Pat spent many springs and summers as a respected umpire for high school and college baseball, as well as girls’ high school softball. He was honored to officiate at both WPIAL and PIAA championship games—an acknowledgment of his integrity and love for the sport. Pat retired from Woodland Hills High School in 2005. In his retirement, he cherished spending winters in Florida with his daughter Colleen, son-in-law Scott, and their daughters Ashley and Brooke. The rest of the year, he made his home in Penn Township with his son Patrick, daughter-in-law Lisa, and their children, Irelyn and Kelton. Pat could often be found on the golf course and sharing his favorite expression: that his life had always been “SUPER!” In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Cathy, as well as his sister Maureen O’Reilly. He is survived by his sister Mary Ann Walde, brother-in-law, Lamont Moore, sister-in-law, Peggy Moore, nephews Jim & Ryan Moore, Neil Walde and niece Kate Walde. Family and friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 Thursday in the John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home Inc., 702 7th Street (Rt. 130), Trafford, 412-372-3111. Parting prayers will be at 11 AM Friday in the funeral home followed by a funeral mass at 11:30 AM in the St. Regis Church with Fr. Daniel Iletogbe as celebrant. Entombment will follow in the New St. Joseph Mausoleum, N. Versailles.
