Judy Harkins

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of a beloved mother, grandmother, dog lover, and proud daughter of Pitcairn, PA, Mary Judith Harkins (Judy), on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.  She was 85 years old. Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years—Terry Harkins. She was greatly blessed to be a part of the Harkins family. In true Pitcairn style, the Harkins family treated her as one of their own. 

Judy was a fixture in the community, always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to her neighbors. She loved and supported Pitcairn youth sports and Camp B. She was a member of the Pitcairn High School Alumni Association and while in high school she was a majorette.  Aside from her dedication to her community, Judy was also a devoted mother to her three children.  She was a constant source of love, support, and guidance for her children; her legacy will live on through them. Judy is also survived by her 6 grandchildren and one great-grandchild whom she loved deeply.

Although she was an only child, Judy was blessed to have cousins who were more like sisters. She and her cousins grew up together and shared an unbreakable bond. Whether it was visiting over the holidays or sharing secrets on long phone calls, they were always there for each other.

Judy loved and respected her neighbors, who were always there for her. Our family often joked that she had the greatest neighbors in the world, and we believe it to this day.  Another great love in Judy's life was her dogs. She had a special connection with animals and could often be found walking her beloved pets around the neighborhood. Her furry friends were more than just pets; they were her family. 

Judy was a dedicated nurse who devoted her entire life to caring for others. She had a natural ability to connect with her patients and their families, always going above and beyond to provide comfort and support during difficult times. She spent decades working in hospitals and clinics, tirelessly advocating for the health and well-being of those in her care. Her selflessness, kindness, and unwavering commitment to helping others made her a beloved figure in the medical community and beyond. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of compassion and service will live on through the countless lives she touched throughout her long and remarkable career.

A memorial service for Judy will be on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 1PM in the John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home Inc., 702 7th St. (State Rt. 130) Trafford 412-372-3111.  Memorial donations can be made to the Pitcarin Camp B, 1163 Paintertown Road, Irwin PA 15642 or to a local animal shelter of one’s choice.  The John M.
