Helge "Pete" Petersen

Helge “Pete” Petersen, 76, of Trafford, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. He was born January 13, 1942, in Soltau, Germany to Marie Luise (Petersen) Dry and Willi Kepp. He came to America at the age of six and lived all over the US and during his teen years in France. He served in the US Army for 21 years, including two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class before retirement. In addition to serving in the military he held many different jobs, including working on an oil rig, driving a tour bus, and working in car sales. He was active in the VFW in Greenville, belonged to the American Legion and was also a member of the Freemason lodge in Edinboro. Pete was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed restoring old tractors, home improvement, and building outdoor recreational gadgets and projects for his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his brothers, Tom Foxworth and Richard Dry. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cheryl (Reesman) Petersen; children David Reesman and Michelle (Petersen) Snider; grandchildren Sonia and Stewart Snider; brother Ronald Foxworth and his wife Patty and their children and grandchildren; nieces Becky (Dry) Park and Jessica Dry and their children. He wasunfailingly courteous and personable to all he met and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His long-time friend and fellow serviceman in Vietnam, Al Hobbs, says this of him: “He was a man’s man and always went in first, leading others.” A memorial visitation will be held on this Thursday March 15, 2018 from 6-8 pm at the John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home Inc., 702 7th St. (State Rt. 130), Trafford. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 11AM at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Rd., Bridgeville, PA 15017.
