George Mohr Obituary

George R. Mohr, 92, of Level Green passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 4, 2021.  George was born on April 13, 1929 in McKeesport, PA, a son of the late Robert and Ida Mohr.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Ruth Blohm Mohr; his son Neil (and wife Su) Mohr of San Diego, CA., and daughter Diane (husband Dale) Klingensmith of Level Green; grandchildren, Jaison (wife Beth) Klingensmith of North Huntingdon, Samantha Cole (husband John) of Escondido, CA., and Katey (husband Bill) Pearson of Glen Burnie, MD.; great grandchildren, Hanna, Amber and Nathan Klingensmith and Drake Pearson;  brothers John (late Joan) Mohr and David (wife Barbara) Mohr both of Level Green.

George received his BS in Education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  He received Master’s degrees from both the University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University.  George’s 35-year professional career was with the Norwin School District as a science teacher, Jr. high football coach and principal of Jr. High West.  He touched the lives of many students and was a role model for many. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served in the Army Reserves for 26 years, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel.  George was a member of Masonic Valley Lodge #613.

George and Ruth travelled extensively around the world.  He was especially fond of Europe river cruises. A highlight of their many travels was walking on the great wall of China.  They were generous hosts, often inviting family and friends to stay with them during their winters spent in Hawaii.  George was an avid fisherman and hunter, a hobby he shared with his family.  He handcrafted beautiful wood canoes which he used in his many fishing and hunting trips.  George was also a golfer and enjoyed playing rounds with family and friends.  He always had a twinkle in his eye and was ready to tease or tickle his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

George was a life long member of Level Green Presbyterian Church where he served as both deacon and elder.  George was also the oldest Eagle Scout in Westmoreland County and served as scout leader for the Level Green troop.

He was an inspiration to those who knew him and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Family and friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Friday, May 7th in the John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home, Inc., 702 Seventh Street.
