Evelyn Werner Obituary

Evelyn M. Werner, age 91, of Irwin passed away peacefully at her granddaughter’s home in Irwin on Monday morning, March 15, 2021.  She was born on September 22, 1929 in West Newton the daughter of the late John and Mary Kopko.  Evelyn was preceded in death by her son Will and grandson Marty Tamasy.  Surviving and cherishing her memories are her daughter and best friend Kathy Murray and son-in-law Pat; her granddaughter Alissa Tamasy and Fiance Mike Turkowski and her great-grandson Jack Tamasy.  While living in West Newton she belonged to the Catholic Daughters of Holy Family Church.  When the group performed at functions Evelyn was the perfect Minnie Pearl down to the price tag hanging on her hat to the unforgettable “Howdy!”  One of her passions was baking and cooking.  Gram always brought pies or her famous chocolate cake.  She loved going out to eat especially the family breakfast buffet at the Lamplighter, pizza after grocery shopping and the New City Buffet for Chinese Food in Greensburg.  She was an excellent seamstress from making drapes to making bridal gowns for Kathy’s Wedding including her Wedding Gown.  Evelyn held many positions.  All of which she was very proud of and excelled at.  She had the dietary skills to be a dietician at a nursing home in Pleasant Hills, a cook and housekeeper for the late Fr. Dinicco at St. Regis Church in Trafford and the snack bar at Boyce Park during ski season.  The one she loved the most was her job at LaRoche College where her late son Will was a student.  All the other kids nicknamed her Grammy because they told her she was the closest thing to their ties with family that they missed so much!  A special thank you to Demi Mains for her kindness and care of Gram.  The family also wishes to thank Heartland Hospice in Irwin for the excellent care and comfort they provided, not only for Evelyn but the compassion to our family during and after Evelyn’s passing.  Also Fr. Roniel Duenas from Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin for his kindness and blessings for our loved one who will be with her loved ones in eternal happiness in Heaven, that she so often spoke of during her illness.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to a charity of one's choice. Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 12-2 PM in the John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home Inc., 702 7th St., (State Route 130) Trafford, 412-372-3111.
