Emma L. Granata Obituary

Emma Louise Smith Granata (Lou, Weezie (stage name, Laurie Gary)), age 99 and 10 months (as she would have said), of San Mateo, FL earned her angel wings on October 08, 2022. Emma was born on December 22, 1922 in Bluffton, IN and moved to Battle Creek, MI in 1927 as a young girl with her family.  During WWII, Emma worked at the Eaton Corp Plant making engine valves for airplanes operating in the war. Emma was an entertainer and dancer for many years and worked alongside Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and other big band orchestras. This is how she met her husband, Ralph Michael Granata (Springy) in 1945. Ralph and Emma worked together in PA  supper clubs as entertainers. Emma was also a licensed cosmetologist and a seamstress who designed exotic flamboyant dance costumes. When her entertaining career came to a close and she was finished raising her family, Emma worked many years as a patient care assistant independently and also at Forbes regional hospital. Into her 80’s she worked for the Aramark Food Service at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh. She loved working during the Pittsburgh Penguins games where she made many friends that would come by to see her. Emma loved her church Monroeville Assembly of God, interacting with other members and volunteering. She enjoyed gardening, going to the beach and bowling especially when she was younger. Her most prized possessions were her grandchildren and great grandchildren with whom she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Michael Granata (Springy); daughter, Constance (Sunny McNeil) Mabel Granata mother, Florence Mabel Twigg Smith; father, Ralph Marion Smith; sister, Rowena Smith Thayer; brothers, John D. Smith, and Joe B. “Dodie” Smith. Survivors include her daughter, Rosina (Frank) Granata Eisenmann; son, Michael (Lisa) Granata; 13 grandchildren and spouses, 13 great-grandchildren.  Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in the John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home Inc., 702 7th Street (State Rt. 130) Trafford 412-372-3111. Funeral services will be at 10 AM in the funeral home on Thursday with Pastor William Dick officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mt.
