Dorothy (Dubrave) Gioia

Dorothy E. Gioia, age 98 of Charlottesville, VA, formerly of Trafford passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022 in Charlottesville, VA.  Dorothy was born on April 29, 1924 in Trafford the daughter of the late Matthew and Catherine (Benich) Dubrave.  Dorothy was a former member of the St. Regis Church in Trafford.  Dorothy moved to VA to live with her daughter Paula after her husband Frank passed.  Paula cared for her for 17 years and Dorothy was very happy to live in her daughter’s home. In her earlier years, Dorothy loved cooking, baking, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. In her later years she loved sitting in her favorite chair in Paula’s home doing her crossword puzzles.  She was preceded in death by her husband Frank P. Gioia in 2005 and her two sisters Marie Berklich and Margaret Skelley.  Dorothy is survived by her children Anita Jurkowski (Joseph) of Clifton VA, Paula Cutruzzula (Jeffrey) of Charlottesville, VA and Thomas Gioia (Jennifer) of Penn Twp.; her grandchildren Edward, Todd, Lauren, Shawna, TJ and Cody; and 8 great grand-children. The family would like to thank Kathy Harmon, Dorothy’s caretaker who assisted Paula with grace and compassion in caring for Dorothy.  The family would also like to thank Trina Murphy and her staff at Morningside of Charlottesville for their excellent care. Family and friends will be received on Friday, Nov 18 from 4-8 PM in the John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home Inc. Trafford 702 7th St. (State Rt. 130) Trafford (412) 372-3111.  Parting prayers will be at 9:30 AM on Saturday, Nov 19 in the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 10AM in the St. Regis Church with Fr. George Saletrik as celebrant.  Interment will follow in the New St. Joseph Cemetery, N.
