Donald W. Smith

Donald W. Smith, age 84 of Trafford passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 18, 2023 in his home.  Don was born on December 22, 1938 in Altoona the son of the late Elmer and Mildred (Lytton) Smith.  Don retired from Thrift Drug after 41 years of service.  He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Plum Creek Lodge No. 799 F&AM.  He was the Past Master of the former Masonic Lodge No 612 in Wilmerding.  Don was a veteran of the US Army.  He also was a member of the Trafford American Legion Post #331, St. John Kanty Lodge #855 (Polish Club) Trafford and he was a charter member of the former Trafford Emergency Medical Service (TEMS) when it was originally formed.  Don also loved to do woodworking, tinkering in his woodshop in his basement, and working in his brother-in-law’s greenhouse.  Don is survived by his wife of 58 years Barbara E. (Henkel) Smith; his children Doug Smith (Kelly), Timothy Smith and Susan Kristoff (Chris); 12 grandchildren and his special cat friend Patches.  Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 2-6 PM in the John M. Dobrinick Funeral Home Inc., 702 7th St. (State Rt. 130) Trafford 412-372-3111.  Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until 11 AM on Monday, at the time of the funeral service with Rev. Roger L. Steiner officiating.  Interment will follow in the Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, N.
