Welcome to the memorial page for

Ronald Daniel Fowler

October 14, 1942 ~ August 12, 2017 (age 74) 74 Years Old

It is with great sorrow that we announce that Ronald Daniel Fowler passed away on August 12, 2017 at age 74 after a brief and difficult battle with cancer.  Ron is survived by his loving partner, wife, and soulmate of nearly 58 years Marie Fowler (Dempsey). Their 54-year marriage was an inspiration to everyone in their lives. Ron is also survived by his children Lisa (Phil) Caplinger, Kurt Fowler, and Megan (Rick) Ochendowski, and by his grandchildren Caitlin, Danielle, Victoria, Declan, Addison, and Aedan. He was a loving, caring man, who without fail, put others before himself and positively affected everyone who met him.  His children embody his gentle lessons of responsibility, self-sufficiency, community and generosity.   All his grandchildren inherited their Pap’s quick wit and incomparable kind heart. Pap was at every game and performance supporting his grandchildren’s dreams.  A lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, Ron was active in mind, body, and spirit.  He served his church, Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, as a member of session and trustee for many years.  Ron also loved watching and playing golf with friends and family whenever he had time.  He visited Ireland and biked across the Netherlands with Marie.  After two mission trips to Malawi, he found lifelong friends. He was also a teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools for 35 years.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Rd., Monroeville, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to: cancer research organizations; Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Rd., Monroeville, PA 15146; or UPMC Canterbury Place, Family Hospice & Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street Pittsburgh, PA 15243. (The family is so grateful to the staff at UPMC Canterbury Place Family Hospice, for helping them through a difficult process in the most attentive and caring way possible.)
